2024 marks our 15th year of operation as Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. Our founders in 2009 put us on a clear path and we have stayed the course through ups, downs and global pandemics. We reviewed all that we accomplished during 2023, and the numbers tell an amazing story!
In 2023:
We served 9,296 families, a 25% increase over 2022.
21% of clients served were new to the Pantry.
We distributed more than 600,000 pounds of food.
More than 530 volunteers provided 11,465 service hours.
We served an average of 188 families each week from throughout the Houston area. As always, we worked to provide a nutritious variety of food, including non-perishable staples, eggs, fresh produce and basic toiletries, plus frozen meat, bread and sweets and other items as available. Clients receive approximately 60 pounds of food during monthly visits.
We continue to stretch and find ways to serve more families without reducing the amount of food we provide. Community donations of food and funds help us meet the growing need. Two volunteer workgroups are exploring ways to get the most out of our facilities and resources and how to attract and retain volunteers who are critical to getting the job done. Their recommendations are already helping us meet the rising demand.
As we look ahead, it’s hard not to look back and think about all that has been accomplished at our little Pantry. Thanks to you, we are equipped to meet any new challenges that will most certainly come our way. We look forward to meeting them together!
We serve close to 200 families each week and are 100% funded by your donations. Every contribution helps feed your neighbors in need and cover basic operational costs. Your gift fills carts and feeds families! Mail a check to the Pantry or make an online gift.
