NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS FIGHT HUNGER
Nine years of Neighbors Helping Neighbors End Hunger
Our six member churches they provide two members on our Board of Directors, that meet monthly, provide volunteers, and donate a given dollar amount each year to help purchase food.
The Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry opened its doors June 25, 2009 to serve Houston families. We are open Thursday evenings 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday mornings 10 a.m. until noon. Serving over 150,000 individuals. 100% Funded by donations. We are 100% volunteer based with over 30,000 volunteer hours since opening. Our youngest volunteer is 4 and our oldest is 92.
We are a “Client Choice” Pantry, our clients choose their own food with the help of volunteers. We provide meat, eggs, produce and toiletries with each order. With the help of the community, each year we are growing to serve the needs of the neighbors.
Our funding comes from donations from our sponsor community organizations, member churches, individuals, and annual fund-raising events. We are a proud member of the Houston Food Bank. About 70% of our food comes from the Houston Food Bank, the balance is from donations with a small portion being purchased from funds of the Heights Interfaith Ministries.
