NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS FIGHT HUNGER
Seven years of Neighbors Helping Neighbors End Hunger
Thank you to Boston College Alumni for volunteering at our Food Fair on April 29. We served 185 families with fresh produce from the Houston Food Bank. Thank you to Ministry in Motion for your Prayer Booth, thank you to Brenna and Arden Rinehart for face painting and thank you to Well Care for your information on health care. A beautiful day.
The Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry opened its doors June 25, 2009 to serve families in the zip codes 77007, 77008, 77009, and 77022. We are open Thursday evenings 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday mornings 10 a.m. until noon. Serving over 115,00 individuals. 100% Funded by donations. We are 100% volunteer based with over 30,000 volunteer hours since opening. Our youngest volunteer is 4 and our oldest is 89.
We are a “Client Choice” Pantry, our clients choose their own food with the help of volunteers. We provide meat, eggs, produce and toiletries with each order. With the help of the community, each year we are growing to serve the needs of the neighbors.
Our funding comes from donations from our sponsor community organizations, member churches, individuals, and annual fund-raising events. We are a proud member of the Houston Food Bank. About 70% of our food comes from the Houston Food Bank, the balance is from donations with a small portion being purchased from funds of the Heights Interfaith Ministries.
